So, on our trip up for lease signing in May, Chris and I stopped at a lunch spot that’s modeled after a cafeteria of sorts. There was a smorgasbord of Chinese, Italian and American fare to choose from and the foo was charged by the pound. While there, I tried this funny looking drink called Chia Seed Kombucha (in grape because I love grape drinks). Although it wasn’t exactly thirst quenching or refreshing it was tasty and it had a really great texture.
Turns out, Chia seeds (yes CHIA like the pet, as in Cha-Cha-Cha-Chia)are super good for you!
According to WebMD, Chia Seeds are packed with fiber and Omega-3 fatty acids which are shown to help reduce the risk factors for heart disease. They also have the texture of poppy seeds, and when mixed with a liquid they thicken it into an almost slimy (yet surprisingly pleasant) mixture. Many websites claim they have blood sugar control and weight control benefits as well, but I’m not sold. They have long been called “a runner’s super-food” which is how I knew they existed in the first place (Chris being an avid runner).
So, after I stumbled upon (well actually interest-ed) a recipe for pomegranate lime Chia Fresca, I realized I had to buy some! So after much deliberation and comparison I ordered 2/3 lb bag off of eBay and they arrived today!
So, naturally I made some (delightfully sugar-free) pomegranate lime Chia Fresca.
2 Teaspoons Chia Seeds.
And now, we mix!
1. Pour juice into a glass
2. Juice half of one lime into the juice
3. Mix in Chia Seeds
4. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes
5. Take out, mix out the clumps and enjoy!
